...Near Record Heat to Continue Through Monday... A persistent dome of oppressive heat will remain entrenched across Deep South Texas and the Rio Grande Valley through Tuesday and beyond. Some of the hottest temperatures of the summer are expected Sunday and Monday. On Sunday, the combination of temperatures rising to between 101 and 106 in most areas with humidity between 25 and 35 percent will push heat index values to between 105 and 110 in most areas, with the highest values along the Rio Grande between Roma/Rio Grande City and just west of Brownsville. This includes the City of McAllen. The highest heat index will occur between Noon and 5 PM. Though temperatures will fall into the 80s after sunset, heat index values will remain above 90 degrees until midnight in the urban corridor of the Rio Grande Valley. On Monday, the hottest actual temperatures of the summer are expected across the region. Forecast highs are expected to range from 103 to 110 in most areas...and several records will be threatened. Fortunately, humidity will fall to low levels during the peak heating, with heat index levels similar to the actual temperatures. Be sure to drink plenty of water...before you get thirsty. Wear lightweight and light colored clothing. Reserve strenuous exercise for early morning or evening hours. At risk residents...including small children...the elderly and infirm...should remain in air conditioned locations. Remember to look before you lock your vehicle. Do not leave children or pets in a hot car.
